Acnederm (Azelex)
Generic Name: Azelaic Acid 20%
25 gm Tube
Manufactured by
Ego Pharmaceuticals
Use
Acnederm is a very popular acne and skin treatment. Its active ingredient, Azelaic Acid, is found naturally in wheat, rye and barley. It is effective against several skin conditions and is applied topically to the skin. Azelaic Acid fights against the bacteria that are often present in acne and also combats against blackheads and whiteheads.
Application
Cosmetics may be used, but before Acnederm (Azelex) is applied the skin should be thoroughly cleaned with clear water or, if applicable, a mild skin-cleansing agent. Antistringent toiletries should be avoided. Unless otherwise instructed by a doctor, Acnederm (Azelex) should be applied generously to the affected areas twice a day (morning and evening) and rubbed well into the skin. As a guide a daily dose of 2gm (1gm per application) will be sufficient for the treatment of the entire facial area.
Side effects
Local skin irritation (eg reddening or scaling, itching and burning) may occur, usually at the start of treatment, but it usually regresses in the course of treatment. Photosensitivity reactions have been reported.
Precautions
Do not use Acnederm (Azelex) if you are allergic to it or propylene glyco. Care must be taken that Acnederm (Azelex) Cream does not come into contact with the eyes. If it does, the eyes should immediately be thoroughly rinsed with copious amounts of water. External use only.
