Uses
Actigall (ursodiol) reduces the levels of cholesterol produced by your liver and absorbed into your system. It also helps to break down some types of gallstones in people who cannot be operated on and to prevent gallstones developing in people losing weight quickly. If you have primary biliary cirrhosis, it may be used to increase your bile flow.

Dosage & Administration
Take actigall (ursodiol) strictly as directed by your health care provider. Take your dose with a glass of water with your meal.

It may take several months of treatment for your gallstones to dissolve and you may need regular ultrasounds to check your gallbladder and liver. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your health care provider while undergoing actigall (ursodiol) treatment.

Store actigall (ursodiol) in a cool, dark place away from children and pets.

If you take too much actigall (ursodiol), get emergency treatment as an overdose may cause diarrhea.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to your next dose, skip the forgotten dose and resume taking your medication when the next dose is due and resume your regular schedule. Do not take two doses of actigall (ursodiol) too close together.

Side Effects
Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include any symptoms of an allergic reaction such as swelling of your throat, face, lips or tongue; hives; or difficulty breathing.

Common side effects of actigall (ursodiol) include diarrhea, constipation, nausea, stomach pain, flu-like or cold symptoms, indigestion, back pain and headaches. If any of these symptoms persist or bother your contact your health care provider immediately.

Precautions
When actigall (ursodiol) is being prescribed make sure you inform your health care provider or pharmacist of all over-the-counter, herbal or prescription medicines you are taking.

If you are pregnant, planning to conceive or are breastfeeding, inform your health care provider before taking actigall (ursodiol).

Do not take antacids that contain aluminum without getting your health care provider’s advice on what suitable antacids you can take while undergoing actigall (ursodiol) treatment.
