What is Acupan?
Acupan is an analgesic drug used as a pain reliever. It works by inhibiting serotonin and dopamine reuptake in order to alleviate pain. It produces fewer side effects than oxycodone and morphine and may be used to treat a wide variety of symptoms.
How is Acupan used?
Acupan should normally be taken 1 or 2 times each day. Swallow tablets whole, alongside meals, and wash down with a full glass of water. Never split, crush, chew, or dissolve tablets unless you have been specifically advised to do so by your health care provider.
Always attend all appointments with your health care provider so your progress and response to this medication can be monitored. Some patients may need their dosage adjusted mid way through your course of medication.
Adverse effects
Acupan may cause side effects in some patients. Side effects experienced can range from mild to severe and may even require emergency medical attention. Always contact your health care provider as soon as you notice any side effects to ensure the correct response.
Possible side effects may include:
- Stomach discomfort
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Headaches
- Dry mouth
- Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears)
- Tremors or uncontrolled movement
- Unusual weight gain
- Changes in vision (Blurriness or auras)
- Changes in heart rate
Warnings
Always inform your health care provider if you have a history of reduced kidney or liver function, or if you are suffering from any type of infection before using Acupan.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Acupan is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
