Uses
Salbutamol is used in a nebulizer to routinely manage and treat severe asthma attacks and chronic bronchospasms that do not respond to other treatment. It works for a short time in your airways to clear any obstructions.
Dosage & Administration
Salbutamol is inhaled through the mouth. Take this medication strictly as prescribed by your health care provider and do not take more than the recommended dose as you risk contracting life threatening side effects.
The effects of Salbutamol last for up to 6 hours and you can take it when required or continuously.
Do not give this medication to anyone it has not been prescribed for.
Side Effects
The potential side effects of Salbutamol include tachycardia, hypokalaemia, tremors, and headaches. These are common side effects. If they get worse or persist, contact your health care provider.
Rare side effects of Salbutamol include atrial fibrillation, bronchospasms, supraventricular tachycardia, hypersensitivity, urticaria, hypotension, angio-oedema, and hyperactivity. If you experience any of these rare side effects, consult your health care provider as you may need emergency medical treatment.
Uncommon side effects of Salbutamol include throat and mouth irritation, palpitations, and muscular cramps. Report your symptoms to your health care provider if they persist or worry you.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include urticaria, oropharyngeal oedema and angio-oedema, anaphylaxis, bronchospasms, and rashes. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your health care provider immediately or seek emergency medical treatment.
Precautions
Tell your health care provider if you are taking any herbal remedies, or any other nonprescription or prescription medicines as the may interact badly with Salbutamol.
Salbutamol is only to be inhaled through the mouth using a nebulizer. It is not to be swallowed or injected.
Tell your health care provider if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding while taking Salbutamol.
If you are allergic to Salbutamol or any of its ingredients, or any other medicines, make sure your health care provider is aware of this when prescribing Salbutamol.
If you have a history of thyrotoxicosis or glaucoma, have been taking large doses of sympathomimetic agents, or have epilepsy, make sure your health care provider knows when prescribing Salbutamol.
