Cytomid (Generic Flutamide)
- Strips of 10 x 250 mg Tablets
- Manufactured by Cipla
Cytomid, a generic form of the drug flutamide, is used to treat prostate cancer. Cytomid is a non-steroidal antiandrogen, meaning it blocks the effects of testosterone in the body. Decreased testosterone has long been known as an effective treatment for prostate cancer. Patients taking this drug should strictly follow the dosage instructions given by their physician.
Cytomid may be given on its own, or in combination with other prostate cancer treatments.
Cytomid causes a number of side effects, most of them only bothersome, and not severe enough to cause patients to stop taking it. Side effects can include coughing, wheezing, or tightness of chest, fever, runny nose, decreased appetite, diarrhea, diminished sex drive, impotence, breast tenderness, hot flashes, and sore throat.
In rare cases, side effects may include chest pain, shortness of breath, and yellowing of the eyes or the skin. If any of these side effects occur, immediate medical attention is necessary.
Cytomid is only used in men, and has not been tested on females or on children. Due to the drug’s function of changing hormonal levels, it is strongly recommended that women – particularly those of childbearing age – and children never take Cytomid. |
