What is Dutas-T?
Dutas-T is for the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men with an enlarged prostate. This package comes with capsules containing dutasteride and a separate strip of capsules containing tamsulosin, which is sold under the name brand Flomax.
The dutasteride capsules prevent the conversion of testosterone to a substance called DHT, which has been associated with the occurrence of enlarged prostate. It helps improve urinary function and can even decrease the possibility of having to have prostate surgery.
Side effects of dutasteride include a decreased sex drive, less semen released during sex, impotence, or breast tenderness. Side effects are usually very mild and diminish with time.
The capsules containing tamsulosin (Flomax) cause relaxation of veins and arteries to improve blood flow. The drug also relaxes the muscles in the prostate, making urination easier in men with enlarged prostate.
Tamsulosin can cause dizziness, especially when standing up. It may also cause drowsiness, so patients taking tamsulosin should take care when operating heavy machinery or when driving. Also, it is important to note that men who are allergic to sulfa drugs may also be allergic to Flomax.
