Flonida Cream (Efudex, Generic Fluorouracil) 1% 10gm
Use
Flonida
is indicated in the treatment of multiple actinic or solar keratoses and genital warts that fail to respond to podophyllum resin or podophyllotoxin treatment.
Other Conditions Treated:
A side effect of the active ingredient,
Fluorouracil
, is the treatment of wrinkles.
Dosage and Administration
Flonida Cream
should be used as instructed by the health care provider.
The cream should be thinly applied, covering the entire affected area as advised, using either a cotton-tipped applicator or clean fingertips. If applied with fingertips, hands should be thoroughly washed after application.
If applying
Flonida
to the face, avoiding getting the cream into the eyes, nose or mouth.
During treatment, stay away from direct sunlight from 10:00am to 3:00pm, if possible, as exposure to ultraviolet light intensifies the inflammatory reaction. Wear protective clothing and sunglasses, and use a sunscreen lotion of at least 15 SPF. In addition, do not use a sun lamp.
The medication may cause the following on the affected area after 1 to 2 weeks:
Redness
Soreness
Scaling
Peeling
Expect the effect(s) to last several weeks after stopping the medication. Sometimes, a smooth pink area is left as the treated skin heals and usually fades after 1 to 2 months.
Treatment should not be terminated without first consulting your health care provider.

Fluorouracil
may include:

Ulceration
The above are localised and often related to the medication's pharmacological activity.
Warnings and Precautions
If you experience any severe reaction to sunlight, consult your health care provider.
Avoid getting the cream onto mucous membranes, as local inflammation and ulceration may result.
Fluorouracil
has also been reported to cause miscarriage and birth defect if applied to mucous membrane areas during pregnancy.
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to
fluorouracil
, and in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
It is also not known if
fluorouracil
is excreted in breast milk, thus mothers should not nurse their babies while receiving this treatment.
