Use
Linid is a synthetic antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections which are not responding to other milder antibiotics. This commonly includes pneumonia, urinary tract infections and various skin and blood infections. It works by limiting the growth of existing bacteria.
Please note that Linid is ineffective in treating viral type infections, such as colds and flus.
Dosage and Administration
Always dose as directed by your doctor. Never change your dosage, stop, or start using this medication unless recommended by your doctor.
Linid is taken orally, with or without food, usually twice daily at the same evenly spaced intervals. It is most commonly prescribed as a course of medication lasting from 10 to 28 days.
As with all antibiotics, it is essential you complete the course of medicine as prescribed, even if symptoms have disappeared. To stop using Linid early may result in the infection returning.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as your remember. If however it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue as normal from your next dose. Never double-up a dose to compensate for a previous missed one.
Side Effect
The following side effects are usually mild, and should not require any medical attention. If they persist, worsen, or become bothersome, inform your doctor promptly.
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
- Insomnia
- Dizziness
- Fever
The following side effects are more serious. If experienced you should inform your doctor promptly.
- Signs of infection such as persistent sore throat and fever
- Rash
- Itching
- swelling
- Severe diarrhea
- Abnormal bleeding or bruising
- Abnormal paleness
- Fatigue
- Severe headaches
- Severe dizziness
- Vision change
- Tingling or numbness of the limbs
- Abnormal vaginal discharge
- Mood changes
- Abnormal breathing
- Abnormal stool
Precautions
Prior to taking Linid, discuss fully your medical history and any prescription or non-prescription medication you take with your doctor. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, are breast feeding, or if you have had any of the following.
- Allergies
- High blood pressure
- Blood disorders
- A liver disease
- A seizure disorder
- Chronic infection
- A bone marrow related condition
- Any adrenal gland or thyroid problems
Whilst using Linid:
- Avoid consuming foods or beverages containing tyramine, such as alcohol
- Take special care when driving or operating heavy and dangerous machinery until you know how Linid affects you
- Never share your medication, even if someone has the same condition as you
- You should have regular check ups with your doctor, and keep all appointments
- Inform your doctor if your condition is not improving
- If you think you have overdosed, seek immediate medical attention
