Use

Minirin is indicated in the treatment of central diabetes insipidus and renal concentrating capacity test. For patients with an established diagnosis, Minirin will reduce urinary output, at the same time increasing urine osmolality and decreasing plasma osmolality.

As a diagnostic aid in examining kidney function, Minirin can be used to test the kidney's capacity to concentrate urine.

Dosage and Administration

For central diabetes insipidus patients, Minirin dosage is prescribed per person. However, a proposed normal dosage for adults is 10 20g once to twice daily; for children, 5 10g once to twice a day.

To test renal function capacity, proposed normal dosage for adults is 40g, and for children over 1 year old, 20g ; for children under 1 year old, 10g. After administration, any urine samples collected within an hour should be discarded. During the following 8 hours, 2 portions of urine should be collected for osmolality testing. Note that fluid restriction should be observed.
