What is it?
Nimodip is a product used to treat symptoms resulting from a ruptured blood vessel in the brain (hemorrhage). It increases blood flow to injured brain tissue.
Dosage
Nimodip comes in tablet form and is taken by mouth. It should be taken on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before a meal, or 2 hours after a meal. Contact your doctor if you have any questions and to explain anything you do not understand.
What are the side effects?
Although side effects from Nimodip are not common, they can occur. See your doctor immediately if you have any swelling of the face, eyes, lips, arms or legs. If you have any difficulty breathing or swallowing, feel faint or have fainting spells, or experience a rash, see your doctor immediately. If you experience severe headaches; dizziness or lightheadedness; flushing (feeling hot); heartburn; fast heartbeat; slow heartbeat; upset stomach; stomach pain; constipation; depression; unusual bruising or bleeding; tell your doctor.
What precautions should be taken?
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit while taking nimodip. Avoid drinking alcohol. Before taking nimodip, tell you doctor if you are allergic to any drugs and what prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking. Tell your doctor if you have ever had heart, kidney or liver disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or become pregnant while taking nimodip. If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking nimodip. If you have any concerns about taking nimodip, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
