The active ingredient Fluoxetine blocks the reabsorption of serotonin (a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger in the brain). Many experts believe it is a chemical imbalance in those neurotransmitters in the brain that causes depression. How do you take it? Usually taken once or twice a day, depending on what your physician has recommended. What are the side effects? Most common side effects are upset stomach, drowsiness,weakness or tiredness, excitement or anxiety, insomnia, nightmares, dry mouth, skin more sensitive to sunlight than usual, changes in appetite or weight.
