UPRIMA – (Apomorphine Hydrochloride)
Packets of 4 x 3 mg Tablets
Manufactured by Abbot Laboratories
What is it?
Uprima is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Uprima helps men achieve erections faster by affecting a certain area of the brain called the hypothalamus. Experts believe the hypothalamus is responsible for triggering or initiating erections. By stimulating this region, erections occur easier and more frequently. Uprima will not increase your sex drive. Uprima will only work if you are sexually excited.
How do you take it?
The normal recommended dose for Uprima is one 3 mg tablet 20 minutes before engaging in sexual activity. Before you take Uprima, drink a full glass of water. This will help the tablet dissolve properly. After drinking the water, place the tablet under your tongue and let it dissolve slowly. It might take about 10 minutes for the tablet to dissolve. Sexual stimulation is required for the drug to take effect, and for an erection to be achieved. For most patients, Uprima should be taken once a day as required. Take one tablet in an eight-hour period. DO NOT exceed 3 mg within that time period. Serious complications can occur.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects are nausea, headache, dizziness, yawning, sleepiness, infection, sore throat, pain, increased cough, rhinitis, flushing, taste disorder and/or sweating.
What precautions should be taken?
Use extra precautions and consult with your doctor before taking Uprima if you have a deformity or disease of the penis, you experience severe dizziness or feel faint after taking Uprima, you are taking medications with nitrates, you have liver or kidney problems, you have abnormally high blood pressure, or if you are taking other treatments for erectile dysfunction. Uprima is not approved for use in women.
