Victoza is administered once daily at any time, independent of meals. It can be injected subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. The injection site and timing can be changed without dose adjustment. However, it is preferable that Victoza is injected around the same time of day.

Warnings and Precautions : Victoza should not be used by patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

For pregnant women and breast-feeding mothers, Victoza should be discontinued, due to inadequate data from the use of Victoza on pregnant women and lack of experience during breast-feeding.

No studies of the effects on the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery have been made. However, patients are advised to take precautions to avoid hypoglycaemia while driving and using machines.

At the beginning of Victoza therapy, the above reactions may occur more frequently, but usually diminish within a few days or weeks on continued treatment.

Note that (major) hypoglycaemia is very common when Victoza is used in combination with sulphonylurea.
