ZOLOFT – (Sertraline Hydrochloride)

What is it?
Zoloft is also an antidepressant. Its active ingredient Sertraline is in the same family as Aropax and Prozac (Serotonin uptake inhibitors – or SSRIs). Zoloft inhibits serotonin in the brain effectively repairing the chemical imbalance in the brain and bringing a feeling of normality to the patient. It is used for all types of depression and disorders, and can be prescribed for other uses.
How do you take it?
Zoloft should be taken once daily, either in the morning or evening, or as prescribed by your doctor.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects include upset stomach, having trouble sleeping, diarrhoea, dry mouth, sexual side effects, feeling unusually sleepy or tired, tremor, indigestion, increase of sweating, feeling agitated, and decreased appetite.
What precautions should be taken?
It may take a few weeks before this medicine starts to work. If you’re taking Zoloft and you’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant, let your doctor know. Also make sure to tell your doctor if you plan to breast-feed your baby. As always, you should tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have, in particular, liver disease. You should not drink alcohol if you take Zoloft. This includes beer, wine, and hard liquor. When Zoloft was studied, it did not increase the effects of alcohol, but using Zoloft with alcohol is not advised.
