Details ZYBAN/WELLBUTRIN SR – (Bupropion Hydrochloride) Packets of 30 x 150 mg Tablets Manufactured by Catalytica Pharmaceuticals, Inc, for Glaxo Wellcome Inc. What is it? Zyban/Wellbutrin SR, an antidepressant or mood elevator, is used to treat depression, and is also used to help people stop smoking. It is nicotine free and helps you cut down your smoking gradually, making it more likely that once you quit, it will be for good! It comes in the form of a sustained release tablet and it doesn’t matter how long you have been smoking, it will help. Zyban is believed to block certain chemical receptors in the brain that make the craving for smoking, and reduce the desire to smoke helping you to quit successfully. How do you take it? It is usually taken one to three times a day and may be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew, or divide Wellbutrin SR or Zyban tablets. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. What are the side effects? Side effects from Wellbutrin are common. They consist of drowsiness, weakness or tiredness, excitement or anxiety, dry mouth, insomnia, nightmares, and change in appetite or weight. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away; frequent urination, difficulty urinating, constipation, blurred vision, change in sex drive or ability, excessive sweating, and headaches. What precautions should be taken? Wellbutrin can be habit forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer period than your doctor tells you. Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Wellbutrin or any other drugs. Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, or have taken in the last 2 weeks. You should not take Wellbutrin or Wellbutrin SR and Zyban together. Also tell your doctor if you drink large amounts of alcohol or are addicted to cocaine, opiates or other drugs so that you can properly taper and end their use. Abrupt withdrawal increases seizure risk. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, difficulty urinating, an over active thyroid gland, or liver, or kidney or heart disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Wellbutrin, call your doctor immediately. If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking bupropion. This drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you. Remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug. Wellbutrin may cause seizures when taken in large doses. Take Wellbutrin in divided doses three or four times daily to minimize the risk of seizures. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had seizures, brain tumor, head injuries, or an eating disorder or are taking anti-psychotics, tranquilizers or other antidepressants.
