Betahistine is used to treat dizziness (vertigo) in those who have Meniere's disease. Betahistine is also used

A new use may be in the field of obesity management. Dr Nir Barak, of the Rabin Medical Centre in Tel Aviv has undertaken trials and it is reported that volunteers lost better than 1.5 Kg/week over twelve weeks and experienced a distaste for fatty foods.

HOW TO USE:
Take as directed, usually three times a day. Dosage is adjusted to each person's response. The normal dose for weight loss is 48mg per day normally taken a one tablet three times daily before meals.

SIDE EFFECTS:
  • Doesn't cause sedation or drowsiness
  • Doesn't impair driving performance
  • Low level of gastric side effects
  • No significant antidopaminergic effects
  • Nausea can be a side effect, but the patient is generally already experiencing nausea due to the vertigo so it goes largely unnoticed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
No known drug interactions.
Can be taken with:
  • Cannabinoid-1 Receptor Blockers (Rimonabant/ Acomplia)
  • Sibutramide hydrochloride (Meridia)
  • Orlistat (Xenical)
There is no clinical evidence showing that combining Betahistine/Histalean with other weight loss drugs has a cumulative effect on Weight loss.
